High above Cochem on the river Moselle the imperial castle with merlons and oriels offers a lovely sight. It is situated on a massive rock, the biggest castle on a mount at the Moselle. The medieval castle belonged to the prince bishop of Trier and was heavily damaged during the Palatine war of succession. Louis Ravené partly restored it during the romantic period in the 19th century and rebuilt it in the neo-gothic style. Knight?s hall, chapel, dining hall, hunting room, bowers etc. are redesigned in a very impressive way.
